NATIONAL RESOURCES

  • National Parents Anonymous® -The nation's oldest child abuse prevention organization, dedicated to strengthening families and building caring communities that support safe and nurturing homes for children.

  • National Parent Network- The online community for: 

    • Parents around the world who want to talk about their leadership skills and opportunities.

    • Parents, grandparents, foster parents, kinship caregivers, anyone in a parenting role who takes action on behalf of their family, children, and communities.

    • Staff or professionals who are interested in working with parent leaders to obtain input and new strategies to better meet the needs of their community.

  • KIDS COUNT- A national and state-by-state effort to track the status of children in the United States.

  • Child Welfare Information Gateway- Connects child welfare and related professionals to comprehensive information and resources to help protect children and strengthen families. Features the latest on topics from prevention to permanency, including child abuse and neglect, foster care, and adoption.

  • National Alliance of Children's Trust and Prevention Funds- Assists state Children's Trust and Prevention Funds and promotes and supports a system of services, laws, practices and attitudes that strengthen families' capacity to provide their children with safe, healthy and nurturing childhoods.

  • Prevent Child Abuse America- Provides leadership to promote and implement child abuse prevention efforts at both the national and local levels.

  • Girls and Boys Town Parenting Website- Specializes in training, consulting and researching parenting practices that can help you in the day-to-day development of your children. 

  • Center for the Study of Social Policy: Strengthening Families- Buildings strong families through parental resilience, social connections, knowledge of parenting and child development, concrete support in times of need and children's social and emotional development.

LOCAL RESOURCES

  • DC Action for Children- An advocacy organization dedicated to ensuring that all children in the District of Columbia have the opportunity to reach their full potential.

  • Catholic Community Services- The largest private social service organization in the Washington, D.C. area. Brings together the expertise of four outstanding social service agencies with deep roots in the community: Catholic Charities, Anchor Mental Health, the Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Institute for people with developmental disabilities, and the Spanish Catholic Center.

  • District of Columbia Social Services Center- Provides residents with health, employment, training and community-based services. The links on this page will help you find the programs that meet your needs.

  • East River Family Strengthening Collaborative- Collaborates with community residents and organizations (public and private) to reduce the number of children from entering the child welfare system of care, increase supports to families, provide services to prevent homelessness, increase financial self sufficiency, decrease youth violence.

  • Edgewood/Brookland Family Support Collaborative- Provides services that either directly or indirectly support or preserve families. These services include but are not limited to: case management, crisis intervention, parenting education, housing assistance, employment services, fatherhood support, youth activities, community engagement, capacity building and technical assistance.

  • Columbia Heights/Shaw Family Strengthening Collaborative- An intermediary community-based membership organization dedicated to family stabilization and the promotion of safe communities where children and youth can thrive. Organizes and leads integrated multi-agency, multi-level strategies to address the needs of at-risk youth and their families.

  • Far Southeast Family Strengthening Collaborative- Acts as a catalyst to develop, nurture and sustain partnerships of residents, agencies and institutions in
    the Southeast community and to create a healthy socioeconomic environment through which every child and family has an opportunity to achieve their maximum potential and to lead a productive life.

  • Georgia Avenue/Rock Creek Easy Family Strengthening Collaborative- One of six Healthy Families Thriving Community Collaboratives (HFTCC) dedicated to developing a neighborhood-based system that builds on strengths, nurtures families and keeps children safe from abuse and neglect.

  • South Washington/West of the River Family Strengthening Collaborative- Develops and coordinates resources and services in our community (e.g. residents, churches, schools, businesses, non-profit agencies and civic groups) to build the capacity of our residents by supporting and promoting the following seven key values: unity, self determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity and faith.
